OECD to map out common security framework for online shopping
The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) plans to map out global guidelines to protect consumers against fraudulent use of online mail-order and electronic commerce systems.
The organization will host an international convention in Paris early in March to list issues, inviting consumer policy authorities, academics and industry representatives. Officials of Japan's Economic Planning Agency and credit card firms are expected to attend.
After the convention, the OECD's Committee on Consumer Policy will discuss practical measures for about a year before drawing up a common security framework for electronic commerce, privacy protection, cross-border fraud and product liability.
The organization has decided to discuss these measures because there are no other international bodies to deal with the issue from the viewpoint of protecting consumers.
