Security Dynamics Unveils RSA SecurPC 2.0

Wokingham, England, By Steve Gold. Security Dynamics has unveiled RSA SecurPC 2.0, the latest version of its software-based encryption software. The package is claimed to the first 128-bit encryption software to be exported from the US and its territories.

The package is claimed to be "file and password compatible" across Windows NT, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and Apple Mac computer platforms, and features "transparent" plus automatic encryption of data for end users' PCs and laptops.

According to John Botting, UK general manager of the company, the package encrypts files to 128-bit levels of encryption and allows companies to implement "seamless, full-strength encryption" worldwide.

"We've submitted RSA SecurPC for approval in the creation of a single, full-strength encryption package under the US government's new export regulations," he said, adding that the package is the first and only product of its kind, and will allow US companies to simplify their security administration.

The package is designed to protect data stored on users' local hard drives, network drives, and laptops, and is claimed to be "ideal" for protecting data in transit via e-mail.

Plans call for the package to ship in the UK from the second quarter of this year, and allow users to create self-decrypting files -- using the password -- for use where the recipient does not have a copy of SecurPC on their machine.

The package is available free of charge to users who purchased version 1.1 of the software after the beginning of this year. Other users can upgrade for a "modest" fee. UK pricing depends on site licensing conditions.
