Cylink Corporation elects former Secretary of Defense William J. Perry to board of directors

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Cylink Corporation, a leading provider of comprehensive information security solutions for the enterprise and Internet markets, today announced that it has elected William J. Perry, Ph.D. to its Board of Directors.

Currently a professor at Stanford University, Perry served as the 19th United States Secretary of Defense from February 1994 to January 1997 and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom earlier this year.

"Secretary Perry's depth of understanding of the information security industry, both from a philosophical as well as pragmatic standpoint, will be a tremendous asset to Cylink as we address ever more complex issues of securing our customer's key wealth creation assets: information and knowledge," said Fernand Sarrat, Cylink's Chief Executive Officer. Perry is the Michael and Barbara Berberian Professor at Stanford University, with a joint appointment in the Department of Engineering-Economic Systems and Operations Research, and the Institute for International Studies. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. As well as serving as United States Secretary of Defense, Perry served as Deputy Secretary of Defense from 1993 to 1994 and Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering from 1977 until 1981.

Besides the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Perry's governmental contribution and worldwide service has been recognized with international decorations bestowed from the governments of Germany, France, Korea, Albania, Poland and Hungary.

Perry has served on the Board of Directors of United Technologies, FMC, a military vehicle manufacturer, SAIC, an information security company, and a number of emerging high technology companies. Perry holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. in mathematics from Penn State.
