Cylink Corp. is working with Hewlett-Packard to develop a security architecture for HP's JetSend technology, a device-to-device communications protocol. It is designed to simplify interaction between information appliances-computing systems, networking equipment, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, etc. The two companies will build the security foundation for the JetSend Application Development Kit and will work with other partners to provide security modules for the JetSend protocol. Cylink plans to bring to the table its expertise in securing transmission of data over networks. Its first step is to create a detailed evaluation of Internet-related security requirements for JetSend. Company officials said the first implementation of the security architecture will appear in early 1998. (www.jetsend.hp.com; www.cylink.com)
